Collection: Polonaise Design Rug
Material: Wool with Silk Highlight
The Polonaise rug, though often mistakenly attributed to Polish origins, actually emerged during the reign of Persian Emperor Shah Abbas in the late 16th century. These exquisite rugs, woven with luxurious gold and silver threads, gained popularity throughout the 17th century. Symbolizing power and opulence, the Polonaise rug became a treasured gift from Shah Abbas to international dignitaries. European nobility, in particular, revered these handwoven masterpieces as the pinnacle of Eastern luxury and craftsmanship.
Our goal was to craft these stunning designs using the finest materials—premium wool sourced from the Baba Mountains in central Afghanistan and silk from Herat, a province in the western part of the country. For most of our Polonaise designs, we selected a softer color palette to enhance their elegance. Each piece is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled Hazara, Turkoman, and Uzbek weavers.
